When you are exploring and defining your voice in art, art becomes an expression of the soul. I believe that’s the thing that made all the great artists great. If we take Beethoven for example, even though, he was deft, he created beautiful music. He started to feel it, receive it from a source beyond human perception and even his disability to hear couldn’t stop that transition.
There comes a time when an artist stops questioning his gift and starts to just express it. It’s a changing point where the perception of art changes, we become more like kids and let everything flow through intuition and trust, not from what we were taught in school or any other facility.
As I started to work as a freelancer the first thing I experienced is that work and private life becomes one. It became very obvious that everything you are, has an influence on your business as well, everything mirrors you, the work you do, art you create, the relationships you have, the food you make etc. In that sense, you can understand that only self-exploring and improving makes changes in each area of your life, including art.
If we stick to art and the flow of creating, the more you practice, explore, try, discover, question, the more you realize who you are and who you are not in your artistic expression. The more you know who you are, the bigger is the connection with your soul, true self, higher self or whatever we name it. You don’t paint with your mind anymore, which sounds like: the tree should look like this, the sky is blue, the eyes are positioned there, you replace all that with intuition: which colour drags my attention now, which shape feels the best to use, what I like at this moment, what I am inspired by today, how would I paint what I feel?
In that sense, your art will probably become more abstractive, because you stop replicating what you see in the outer world and start expressing what you sense through your own experience, your own perspective with your personal preferences. It’s called imagination.
If we paint with our brains, we can only paint what we know from our past experiences, teachings and memories. Imagination and creativeness are set for something we haven’t seen yet. And the big question is, how can we paint something we haven’t seen before? Where does the idea come from? It’s not from the books, teachers, people, environment. Even though you might get inspired by something, you can use it as a reference to transform it to something else, in any case, the idea grows within you, it’s from authentic you, your soul, which communicates with you through intuition, ideas, inspiration. And as good as you get with your soul connection, the more soulful art you’ll be able to make.
When you come to that state you also become aware that it’s not really important if other people copy your art because you are the source of your ideas, no one can really replicate that, you will always move ahead and create more one of a kind pieces. Whoever copies you is just missing on their own uniqueness that is available to them if they are connected within.
